Types of Public Charging
First, we’ll cover the different types of public charging. They vary by power and charging speed, so it’s helpful to know what kind of charging station you are headed to when planning your route. DC (Direct Current) fast charging stations are currently the fastest option for drivers in the U.S., including southern California. With a compatible EV you can access up to 350kW of power. Check your vehicle to see if it is compatible with DC fast charging and what the estimated mileage per hour of charging is. In most cases you can extend your travel significantly in just 15 or 20 minutes. The other common public charging option is known as Level 2 or AC charging. Although not quite as fast as DC charging, you’ll still be able to get your EV ready for travel and it may be the fastest option if your vehicle does not support DC charging.

Electrify America charging stations in the San Diego area* with 76 more scheduled to be coming soon. This includes stations in grocery store and shopping mall parking lots, business and work parking areas, and more. So whether you are running errands or on a road trip, rest assured that you’ll easily be able to find a convenient charging option.

To find a charging station in San Diego you have several options. You can download an app or use an interactive map on a site such as Electrify America. Additionally, many EV models have in-vehicle programs that help you find compatible charging stations on your route.
